It's Not About You, It Never Was

One of the biggest mistakes we can make when serving in ministry on any level is thinking it's about us. This, unfortunately, is extremely common on weekend and worship teams. "If I can get on that stage," "If I can get behind that console," "If I can get a promotion," "If I can get that campus," "If I can lead that song," "If I can stand here on stage," "If I can get paid." Let's be honest with ourselves, we could list "If I" statements all day.

Here's your daily reminder: It's not about us, it never was.

Ministry is about other people. Jesus said He “will build His church." That is you, that is me, it's the people we serve next to every weekend. It's people, it's our mission! This is especially true for those who serve in the worship ministry because we can often develop a "rockstar mentality" that only distracts us from what Jesus called us to do. For the record, I am guilty of this. As I write this, I'm already looking for ways that I can apply this to my daily routine.

This week, challenge yourself to add value to the role that you serve, and not expect to be served back. Shift your mind from thinking that what you do is about you to putting Jesus first and serving his people. Do whatever it takes to move your church, your worship ministry, or whoever you serve, forward.
